Art to the rescue.

I’ve often found myself wishing (and I’m sure most people feel this way too) that I had more than 24 hours in a day.  There just isn’t enough time to do everything. With so many commitments and obligations between a day job, my art, my dogs (and the rest of the zoo in my house), and my family, I find myself with precious little time to tackle other ventures like volunteering. I’ve always wished I could spend more time helping with my local animal rescue organizations, but I just haven’t been able to eek out those extra hours in the day.

Last week, I had what I considered to be a most brilliant revelation. Why not combine my favorite things if I can’t do them separately? I love painting, I love dogs, and I love painting dogs – so why not make something special of it?

I contacted Amy’s Adoptables, the group that rescued my girl Zelda, and asked Amy about setting up a long term commitment to donate a percentage of the proceeds of all of my pet portraits to the rescue. As you might imagine, she was elated, and so was I. Before this, I donated a large custom pet portrait once per year at their annual fundraising event, Puppy Palooza, but it didn’t seem like quite enough. I really wanted to find a long term way to give more back to a group that does such amazing work for both people and animals in our community.

Herein lies the solution. From this point forward, 10% of all pet portrait proceeds will be donated to Amy’s Adoptables. It doesn’t matter if your pet is a dog, cat, horse, ferret, lizard, parrot, or frog – they’re yours and are special to you. When you choose to commission a precious keepsake of your pet, you will also be helping to pay for the vetting, transport, and training of dogs that might otherwise not have a chance.
